Scientists of Sound return to Fredericton for the release of their new album The Beginning (of the beginning of the end), with special guests Elephant Skeletons and more TBA

Scientists of Sound’s signature anthemic prog-rock electro sound unites raging guitar hooks with hard hitting beats and epic gang vocal melodies. Combining elements of electronica with the frantic energy of a rock band with something to prove at every show, an SOS set leaves the audience feeling like they just climbed a mountain.

Formed from the ashes of East Coast powerhouse bands The Jimmy Swift Band and Ruby Jean and the Thoughtful Bees, the core members of Scientists of Sound are producers Colin Crowell (keyboards, bass, trumpet), Craig Mercer (guitar, keys, drums, bass, vocals), and Sean Parsons (drums).

Their new album The Beginning (of the beginning of the end) finds the band embracing more of their rock and roll influences and their reverence for the prog-rock movement of the 70s as exemplified in artists like Pink Floyd, YES, Rush, and Allan Parsons Project. The result is aggressive yet moody, and combines hard hitting electronica with the societal angst of Pink Floyd and the modern rock sensibilities of Muse and A Perfect Circle.

A bit more about the record:

If you are thinking that prog rock and electro have no business being in the same sentence, you are not alone—and they probably don’t. Stop reading because this music is not for you. But if you are intrigued at the notion then you might have had a YES shirt at some point in your life. You likely can sing a bunch of guitar solos, and you actually didn’t hate it when some dipshit put electronic beats under your favorite Pink Floyd tunes. On some level, you are probably a music nerd.

Scientists of Sound have wasted countless hours in the studio obsessively compulsively attempting to improve every sound, every beat, and every note on their new album The Beginning (of the beginning of the end). It was beginning to look like there would never be an end to the making of this record, but if the world up and ended without it having been released, the irony would be just too much.

“Just too much” explains a lot of what is happening on this record. It’s probably too much for you. But is it ever enough?

If you answered yes, this isn’t for you. Stay safe out there. But if this sounds at all appealing in any way, this might be just what you’ve been looking for.
